        Letters should be recessed like the swastika. The "3" should have a round top, in contrast to the oval badge.

          Sorry but I don't like your example. Here's an original from my collection to compare. By the way, originals of this badge are very hard to find!

              Agnes, the example that ErichS has posted is the recognized original pattern. There are some collectors who feel the type you've posted, with raised lettering, and the R not directly below the S, are also original but they're in the minority. If you're debating about buying one, I'd recommend sticking to the type posted by ErichS.

                    Another to compare thet came directly from a veteran. We still cannot find a picture of this style in wear but that does not make it a reproduction either. Lets consider the S over R to be an accepted type and the one like you have to be unproven but not out of the question.

                            Until a period photo comes forth of this variation badge they will right or wrong be considered suspect. These badges are so rare why take a chance on a non textbook example?
