Fake small GPB sold by the Duck?

May I point out a questionable 24mm GPB sold by the Ruptured Duck? Has all the indications of the early Austrian fakes I'm afraid...

These scarce and desirable badges were given to all persons who had had uninterrupted service in the NSDAP since February 27, 1925, and who held NSDAP membership numbers one through 100,000. Of the 100,000 who may have qualified, due to circumstances, the number of awards was actually 22,282. It is identical in form to the Party Badge, with the addition of a gold oak leaf wreath surrounding it. This one has the Party member’s number 60,960 engraved on the reverse. This is the 25mm version worn on civilian clothing. The enameling is excellent, with minor toning to the wreath. An excellent example of a desirable badge!

It seems that these little Devils get by a lot of dealers but I'm sure Bill will do the right thing and remove it.

                    caveat emptor

Not to point any fingers at any big time dealer in particular, but the key principle goes: know what you are buying. DO NOT RELY on "reputation" or "stories" from sellers.

I have bought things that turned out to be fake from "big dealers." I've held onto these items for years. I never had any receipts or better yet, "photo receipts," referencing the items. Now they are duds. My experience has been that the typical nice guy dealer at best will offer "credit" but not a full refund. Unless you get a nice lifetime guarantee with photo receipt, and you bought w/o doing your own homework, it's total pot luck.

Great post here. June in 2011. Dead center of "internet-land".

The fakeness of the Fuess GPB listed for sale is so obvious. A little bit of searching on this forum, and nobody in their right mind would ever conclude that this piece is real! You don't need to be a genius. The font in the title tells all! The perfect lettering of a fake, compared to the textbook hand done lettering of an original, is so so so OBVIOUS.

When you know, you know. Do not doubt yourself. Be not concerned. Fakers can never fully reproduce original pieces in every aspect. Has never been done, in any field.

Have a friend lend an opinion. Listen to opinions. But at the end of the day, do your own homework!

How can you be in the TR militaria business for donkey's years and 'miss' a thing like this ????

                      Just an honest question.
