    Check this out--Help?

I would appreciate any feedback on this item my buddy owns. It weighs about 10 pounds and the green back and cover is made of granite. Has anyone seen something like this? History? Value? Thanks Everyone

Interesting, but the quality of the "Fuhrer eagle" doesn't seem to be up to what I'd expect....the eagles head, swastika, etc. just isn't quite "right" unless it's the camera angle. Be interested to hear what the expert has to say...

            Just my observations....

I agree with John G. -- perhaps it's the photos but it seems to look 'new' to me. Not sure why anyone would construct an elegant lined box and add the Mein Kampf title to the edge, making it look like a special luxury edition of the book? Does your buddy have any info about the piece's history? I too look forward to what the experts say!

I don't think it would be an official gift, but perhaps a commissioned piece?
The eagle does look a bit overdone.

Looks cool and a nice conversation piece I'd like to have it. No idea if it's period though sorry...

In response to the questions of legitimacy I'm sure we can all agree across the spectrum of all the items posted on the WAF it's hard to get the "feel" in this matter of medium. The overall age of this piece is apparent when seen in person and is represented in every manner from the wood inside the case to the bolts that hold it together. The eagle in my opinion is of exquisite quality and extremely detailed. I do recognize that it could have been cleaned at one time and in examining the photo it's important to note that the flash did brighten it up more than it is. The tarnish on the side of the piece is even and runs into the groves of the Mien Kampf inscription. The inside even has that "old smell" which I'm sure many collectors know what I'm referring to, especially the helmet guys. While I will recognize, and as you all know that in a hobby full of land mines, it is only proper to scrutinize however in my opinion given all the intricate parts and materials that make this piece and holding this first hand it is my opinion that it is a 100% period object. I appreciate all comment, both positive and negative.

The typical MK casket argument. What convinced me of those besides materials, craftmanship, etc. is that there are quite a few around, with variances. To argue in favor of a unique piece is much harder. But a hands-on examination would be helpful, as always.

                          Hello!
If it is an original, then it can only be a commissioned work!
I agree with the der-hase-fee, it would have to examine more closely!
The associated Mein Kampf I would be interested but more!
