    Nazi ring in red

Bought some german imperial and nazi medals last night and this ring was in the mix, looks convincing but ive no idea what country it might be from, any suggestions would be welcome. Pete.

        Hi Pete,

When I first saw your ring posting my thought was that it is a seal ring for impressing into wax -- bishops wear that sort of ring bearing the seal of their diocese in reverse for sealing important documents, or the crest of their episcopate, and royalty and certain officials also wear seal rings with reversed, raised designs to emboss documents with their coat of arms. But that doesn't appear to be the case with your ring; it doesn't look like it has much of a raised surface for embossing. I like the silver setting very much -- oakleaves and acorns are certainly of our period. I couldn't see any silver content or maker's mark in the pix, so there's not much to go on. Hopefully someone else on this thread will know more about it. A reversed swas is certainly unusual!

It is latvian made. There are different patterns of these rings, with the swastika, with the latvian national symbol, with SS runes etc. The ring looks good so far, but be careful. They even make such rings today. It´s hard to see the difference between a good one and a newly made. There are always no silver content marks inside. just test the enamel. Should be really hard and glasy. Use a red hot needle and touch the surface of the enamel. There should be no smock, melting, etc. and the enamel should be scratch resistent, too.
