    Fake HJ Sharpshooter badge.

This may be old hat, but I had a couple of good photos so I thought I would share. Maybe some of the newer guys can benefit. I'll eat crow if I'm wrong, but here is how I see it...

This HJ Sharpshooter badge was acquired in a small lot of HJ items recently. Unfortunately it and another dubious item let to the return of the lot. Things to notice here on the obverse is the horrible swastika. the lower arm is almost nonexistent, and the very center of the swastika appears round. This is probably an artifact of the construction method of the reproduction. In addition, black enamel seems to just cover the rings of the target.

Finally, look at the horrible asymmetry of the crossed rifles in relation to the HJ diamond. The rifles cross somewhere under the upper right swastika arm instead of at it's center. This shift is most apparent near the bottom of the diamond where the spacing of the rifle butts is grossly different left to right

Things get no better on the reverse. Not only do we find the kiss of death; the small, oblong pin keeper... we find the remains of the raised locating ring for the correct, round pin keeper. This was left over from the original used to make the cast reproduction.

Finally, tipping the badge in the light you can see the "oil slick" look of the chemically applied patina

The 'fish scales' are pathetic also.
Gets my vote for "Worst Repro Ever".

Just a small correction: this is a copy of the basic HJ shooting badge and not of the 'sharpshooter' badge (Scharfschütze).

            Title correction

Yes... Gary is correct. I suppose I used the term in a rather generic manner. I was curious if the higher order badges in this series also had crappy reproduction as this one?
