This conversation about the 'desk eagle' modeled after the Great Eagles standing on each end of the tribune of the Luitpold Arena at the Nuremberg Rally Grounds is quite interesting and got me thinking about the various designs these eagles went through. I own two examples: one is a gilt-fired eagle and swas that sits atop a three-columned base of red marble and gilded metal columns, and the other is a plaster copy of the eagle and base probably made in the 1960s. The former eagle is finely detailed on both surfaces; the plaster piece is almost devoid of detail on the reverse. I bought the plaster copy fairly early in my collecting career and was not able to add the gilded piece until about 14 years ago.
In my opinion, and consulting with Ulrich of England's book "Deutschland Erwache," the source of these eagles goes back to Hitler's original sketch for the first DE Standard which he personally drew in 1922. This sketch included a spread-winged eagle atop a wreathed and static swas about to take off in flight; the bird was bent forward with wings fully extended and tail lifted high. That design was executed in metal by the Munich jewelers Otto and Karolina Gahr. Hitler's design of a spread-winged eagle surmounting a swas was incorporated into the banner of the "Volkischer Beobachter" newspaper and remained there in print until it ceased publication. The next three-dimensional manifestation of the eagle and swas rendered in metal, other than in the form of logo lapel pins, is seen in the two bronze eagles sitting atop standard boxes with 'NSDAP' on them, on the tops of long poles, each facing toward the other and flanking the main entrance of the Brown House in Munich. These eagles take a more upright and regal posture than those atop the DE Standards; their wings are extended but pointed down and to the rear, and their tails are also not raised in immanent flight. These eagles were a part of the major renovation designed by Prof. Paul Ludwig Troost which created the Braunes Haus as NSDAP Headquarters, completed in late 1930. Interestingly, these door eagles were very similar to that which sat atop the Mahnmal in the Feldherrnhalle. Prof. Troost had his hand in this memorial project, as well, though it was not christened until the annual march to the FHH in November of 1933. The memorial was designed by Troost and executed by Prof. Kurt Schmid-Ehmen, who was a known sculptor, artist and Party member and who would also design the eagles which adorned the Party buildings on the Königsplatz, the New Reichschcancllery and the Rally Grounds in Nuremberg...though his later works would become even more stately and stylized than his early work at the Brown House and FHH.
Just some thoughts on the subject...

Dear Seba,
I had a look at your image again which shows a close up of the maker mark. Can you take a better image? Those that I have come across are either marked with a RZM M3 suffix, unmarked or HB. There was an old thread about the HB maker, but I cant seem to find it.
Don't worry about the price that you paid, enjoy the desk eagle.
