    Orts Visor Cap

Hi Guys, I wanted post my orts visor and get some feedback on it. The cap has definitely seen better days ,but it is what it is. Do you think this sweatband is original to the cap or replaced? I mainly collect combat uniforms and gear. I'm making my move into political uniforms and so far I've learned its a whole new ballgame. This is a form 3 visor with 1936 pattern silver insignia correct? Jeff's highly recommended book is on the way.

        hello
THIS IS A MODEL IV of 1939 saw the eagle cockade gray visor and I would favor a model end of war

So all of the gold wash has faded off the wreath and eagle then. The different insignia used over the years got me a little confused. Thanks for the input.

For me, this is likely an earlier cap as leather visors were discontinued in 1937. It is an earlier cap upgraded with war time zinc based wreath and eagle to meet the 1939 uniform regulations, Zinc insignia loose their finishing due to oxidation. If a true Form IV cap, I would expect a saddle shaped cap.

Thanks Bob. I just got Jeff's book in today so im going to do some homework this weekend. So in your opinion which uniform would be more appropriate to display the cap with, early tunic with silver buttons or a late war with gold buttons?

The correct uniform would be the 1939 pattern tunic with gold buttons. Period photographs do show Ortsgruppen and higher level political leaders still wearing the 3rd pattern insignia. Silver buttons would be a bit to early.

Bob, I believe you are right about the cap being upgraded. The wreath and cockade are separate pieces so this cap is a bit earlier.
