I agree with Valhalla -- it looks like an early lapel pin made to be worn by NSDAP members and supporters with civilian clothing, including those belonging to the SA, the SS, NSKK, etc. It is a beautiful example of the M-1927 eagle/swas design and the presence of a diaper-pin device means that it was not intended for wearing on a kepi, which would have employed a larger device with mounting prongs instead of a pin so that it could be flush with the cap fabric.

            Hi Tony,

I wouldn't describe your lapel pin as uncommon, given that it comes from the late 1920s or early 1930s; its design is of the first in a series of eagle/swas logo designs and was succeeded by a slightly fuller-bodied and broader-winged eagle issued as the M-1934 design. Your pin dates from the pre-RZM times when private badge-makers and jewelers were free to produce pieces without oversight from the NSDAP...and many did. While not particularly rare, it is finely made and should receive a special place in your collection!

              Tony,

this type of eagle is not uncommon and can be found at fairs. Perhaps sometimes used on ties?

              Regards,
              Mil
