political tunic size markings

How do you know what the size markings are on political tunics? for example, I have seen NSKK tunics marked with a Large size "54" or "48 stamped on the back panel lining. Is the 54 larger or smaller in size than the 48. thx Tony

Tony - a german size 48 is eqaul to a US size 38 - German size 54 is a US size 44 - hope this helps.
