    SA Medal

    Hi everybody,

What do you think of this badge? I'm not 100% certain about the hook but perhabs you can convince me.

    Thanks in advance!

That hook catch is a bit unusual, but so is a 1st Issue SA Sport Badge -- which this one is, in Silver -- in any grade manufactured by W. Redo. But this badge was also made for private purchase; it was not an awarded badge as it has no control number on the reverse. Private purchase badges and medals are often found to be better-made than ones created for award, so I have no problem with this piece. Best of luck,

      Br. James

        IMO it´s a fake.
Numbering is not comonly present in this model of SA Sportbadges, but comparing with the well known Redo shamples this isn´t a tipical one for this maker even supposing that these strange pin and catch could have been replaced. Very bad details in the cutting. I don´t like absolutely, and this one is a badge cheap and common enough to find another one more convincent than this.

I´m with Greg here. Lettering looks very poor made and whole details aren´t good as we are used to on Redo SA badges.

Sorry friends but I can't agree. As I said below, the absence of control numbers only signifies that this badge was made for private purchase, as were examples of the other two Issues (though the 3rd Issue badge, made and awarded during war-time conditions, was not intended to include control numbers linking it to the Award Document). I still believe this to be a good badge.

James, numbers are not on discussion. We say thats it´s a fake for the details of the badge in itself. Please read again our last posts.

                Hi guys.

Thanks alot for your input, eventhough I'm still not 100% convinced I'm gonna put this one of just for sure.
Would hate to have a fake among my medals!

At some point I agree with James, but I also find the medal a bit to poor/sloppy. But why reproduce such a relative cheap medal, but than again, think about the Ost medal

Again, I might take this one as 100% but won't take the chance....

                Thanks again guys!!!

I was looking in my collection for a Redo and though there isn´t a good ligh to take a good picture of the badge and with flash my camera don´t take the image as fine as I wish, you can see how is the way how a Redo SA sportabzeichen must be.
Your question about why the forgers make copys of this cheap badges the reply is very clear: you don´t expect they fakes these pieces, and the price to make them is always cheaper than the originals, so the profit do exist.
