    A German/American Love Story

This is what my research has discovered to date. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Margaret O'Brien was born on 27 September 1910 in San Francisco. She married Friedrich Wilhelm Alexander Maria Humbertus Baron von Vittinghof gennant Schell zu Schellenburg on 21 April 1937 in Enfield, County Meath, Ireland.

The couple settled in Germany and had two daughters born in 1938 and 1939. Friedrich was killed in action on 15 July 1941 at Polotsk, Belorussia as part of Army Group Centre and possibly as a member of the 57th Panzer Corps which took Polotsk.

Margaret and Friedrich's two daughters, Maria Immaculata and Margaret Friederike survived the war and also both married German Barons.

One has to wonder what Margaret's life was like in Germany as an American before and during the war and then raising two daughters in post war Germany. Movies are made about this.

Interesting passport. I would assume she was born in the US, but most likely raised in Dublin/Ireland, given the lack of travel stamps from the US.

There has to be more information on her and her husband, as well as a family tree on the web--have you done any research?

          Great piece, btw.
