    Badge

I'm not familiar with this particular badge, and how it is usually constructed, but the workmanship is excellent!! I'll be anxious to see what others say. I'll be surprised if it's not authentic, judging by the quality. I like the particular way the eagle is worn and has aged.

Without comparing your badge with my own in person it is difficult to say whether or not it is original or a copy BUT two things I don't like are the sharpness of the eagle's details (see the feet) and the painted national colours at the bottom which should be enamel. Also, the rivets are either wrong or have been tightened. The pin is good however. I need to see some more comments and give this one some more thought.

My own badge is posted below.

Judging the enamel, the rivets on the back, the different details on the leaves...

This is obviously a total different badge. There are similaritites like the pin, but too many different details to be calling it the same badge. A different (later?) production is my best guess. Im with Stan, dont know what to think of it yet, but it is of inferior quality and i find that strange.

Wow Stan! With yours in comparison, the poor quality of the first is obvious.

Looking at the thread starter and the two others, I don't like the first one, painted colours at the bottom is a red flag for me.

                Best Regards,

Hard to tell, it could be good too. I let someone else chime in.

                      Badge

Of the 3 badges posted, I prefer Post 6 !! If you look at all 3 badges "in totality", instead of just detail, this badge really stands out as impressive!! The same way that later Nazi Party pins are painted instead of enamel, a painted version could be possible. I originally liked the 1st badge, but the eagle's expression is better on the other two. I DON'T like the way they had to curve the pin so drastically. You'd think that an experienced badge maker could get the pin on at least somewhat straight. But like I said - I'm not an expert on these.

The posted badge is original IMO, you just don't see fakes of these let alone of this quality. The rivits have been smashed but the eagle is obviously cupal. The enamel at the bottom may have been lost by being dropped or whatever and has been repainted. For me everything else checks out and I think you are lucky to own an extremely rare and valuable Gau badge.
