    SA Shirt

I would like to know if the pull-over style shirt worn under the SA tunic had horizontal reinforcing stitching under the bottom button, where the buttons stop. Anyone?

ERICH - There are 2 rows of fine, light colored horizontal stitching directly above the lowest button. They are 1/4" apart. This stitching is the ONLY thread (in the photo) which is totally original to the shirt, with the exception of the button hole stitching on the 2nd button. The bottom button hole is hand-made, with hand-made reinforcement, so I believe that the shirt was subsequently separated at this area. That's why they had to add the bottom button-hole. If it wasn't a pull-over, why was the horizontal stitching there, if it wasn't a pullover? (IMO). There are profession alterations in the same thread as the bottom, that shortened the sleeves at the shoulder. There are also holes and thread where metal belt hooks once were. Do you agree it was a pull-over. The shirt already sold - just wanting to know for future info. Thanks!!

I can't tell exactly what was being done to this shirt. It may have been an under the tunic shirt that was partially converted to a brownshirt. If there are no signs of chest pockets, that may be the best guess.
