    AH Silver section

Here is an iteresting piece,I have shown it before but not sure if on the WAF.
This came from a guy who metal detected it in the 70's when stationed in Berchtesgaden with the US army.

It was found with a bunch of similar pieces at the back of the garage ruins up on the Obersalzburg.

The theory is village looters got to the silver service canteen before the invading French and US in the small window between then and the SS leaving. They obviously cut of the offending Swastika that would connect them with the regime and buried them.Probably taking the remaining non distinguishable silver to be melted down.
Thus leaving us with a rare and unique opportunity to see inside one of these solid silver AH pieces.

Love it, you can even see where it was cut nearly all the way through and then bent until fatigue snapped in and it broke.

Strange theory: If the looters would have wanted to dispose of the evidence/link/offencive piece, they'd have melted that first, wouldn't they ?

No Not really, not on site anyway, far easier to just bury the offending cut offs.If they would have been caught in the village with AH cutlery they could have been connected with either looting or the regime ,hence cutting the AH ends of before taking the away from the Obersalzburg site, understand?

No. Why spend more time at the site of the deed (cutting and burying) and not just running with the loot concealed ? I'm not in the business, but isn't the saying you get away as fast as you can ? And then melt everything down right next to the Eintopf on the stove !

Caught carrying a load of silverware - cut off of not - would have put the looter under suspicion anyway.

              .

Interesting... item and fine story. Put dont seem likely for me. But maybe....
It could also have been a US soldier having some fun, or maybe damage from the air attack on the place?
