Procedure for Receipt of the Blood Order

I noticed a notation in one of the papers in the officer file of Hans Dobek, recipient of the Blood Order. Dobek had filled out one of the many questionnaires to be submitted to his SS-File. He noted that he was an Anwärter for the Blood Order. This was dated late 1938. He was awarded the BO on Oct 31, 1939. So he knew he was in line to receive it. May we suppose he applied for the award after the official opening of the award to those former Austrians who suffered bodily injury or imprisonment for the NSDAP?

Yes Joe, you are correct. The applications were sent to those who thought that they qualified under the new regulations after 1938, like the Austrians. There were also more than a few Putsch Vets who missed out during the first striking of the Order and were awarded the 2nd pattern. One good example was Max Sollmann ,the Chief of Lebensborn , who participated in the Putsch at age 19 but left the Country until 1934. His BO # was 1503 awarded in 1939.
