Looking at Craig's offering brings back memories. When I bought the Frick document, I was told that the first issue Ukunden seemed to have been presented in a frame of some sort, as their is evidence of some sort of glue or paste and prior mounting. Anyone else hear that opinion.

Jon, I had it for eight years or so and sold in at the SOS in 2005.I had it on the table at the SOS and very few people looked at it. I had the fun of getting it out of the woodwork (actually a local shop got it out of the woodwork, so I was standing there) and tracking down the document and putting them together. I had my Frick experience, but I have more emotion tied up in the Dobek grouping, what with those extra documents, his photos, and his final letter to his wife before being lost in combat with the Italian partisans and learning about his Austrian service and incarceration for the Reich.

I do Erich. I thought I had mentioned and shown it before. I bought it off Hermann a long while back. Both the document in folder and the cased award were sold. But the problem was there was nothing to tie the numbered badge with named but unnumbered award document. I found the link in his party card. The BO Besitzurkunde is a much better piece to have with an award because it it finite evidence of the name and number association. Without that, one has to scramble to link the two together.

Joe: The Frick set was the best, I think, of any set I've ever seen. I've only seen one or two other 1st pattern documents. I think that John will agree that when you find things like low numbers (2 digit), condition (most lacqueur present), membership in the SS, high political rank (such as Gauleiter), and especially any associated documents, prices approach a multiple of a nice regular one. Joe: if you get the chance, I'd love to hear how you got Frick out of the woodwork, and where you found the document.

I would agree with Craig, its certainly a mix of all the factors that contribute to value. I would love an order under 100 but as of yet have not been able to get one,for what I am prepared to pay
Going back to the original post I would buy them for 2000 all day long if I could find any for that ! I have a war fund ready to add to my collection but just cant find any I want to buy or can prise them out of owners hands
