I wanted to get some advice on collecting the 1940-1944 set of plates. I missed out on a 42 for about $600 a while back and now the ruptured has the 1943, which I always thought was the most attractive of the bunch. Are there fakes? Are any years especially difficult? I have never been to the big shows, are they pretty common there. Thanks. Paul

Hi PT, I own the 42 and 43 plates. I don't think that they're common but they can be had. The fakes that I have seen were of the 42 plate which was very crude and wouldn't fool too many collectors. Prices that I have seen were in the 1500.00-1800.00 range so the one you missed at 600.00 was a real steal if in mint condition.
