    Danzig Medal

A friend of mine just put this one in my hand. It is from Danzig, looks like pewter 60mm and is cast. Looks like it may be the Niemann number 4.05.10 in his old 1999 book which he lists as "Medal for special cultural efforts" Any one familiar with this medal as illustrated? What metal should it be? Were these medals cast? Thanks, Fred

Back side. Across the back is the engraved date "12.-13. 9. 1936". The Nazi eagle at the top and the swastika at the bottom look like they are applied but there is no visable seam. Thanks again, Fred

      Hi Fred,

yes, this medallion did exist. However, the ones with the eagle and the swastika are replicas and not worth much. The originals are silver (925) and may have an engraving regarding the occasion for awarding the medal or sometimes no engraving at all. These casts are poor fakes.

      Best,
      Danziger
