    WHW Collecting Tin

Not sure if this is the correct place for this item but I would appreciate some opinions on a WHW collecting tin I own.

The tin is presently on the e-stand and reserved for a forum member:

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=363851

However, before concluding the sale, we would both value the thoughts of our fellow members re. the condition of the tin and in particular the paint, since it is in excellent condition. With this in mind, please observe the red marks on the label. Are these indicative of a repaint? Though it would strike me as odd that somebody would go to all the trouble of repainting, only to get paint on the label subsequently. Also, would not the label have been applied once the paint had dried?

    Opinions welcome.

    Thanks for looking.

    Best,
    Toby.

Update: it occurred to me to test the paint and label with a UV lamp. No reaction from either.

No doubt its an original collection tin but I do have issues with the condition apart from the paint overspill on the inside.

          1. No damage to label, where there is rubbing to the raised letters and no damage to the paint under a ripped bit of label.

          2. Odd rectangular marks on the label.

          3. Again no damage to the paint under a large ripped area of label and traces of red paint.

          4. Overspill of extra paint on underside of tin. Bottom looks like original paint apart from area marked.

          5. No rubbing of the paint where the coins and notes go.

          Hope this is useful.

            Hi David,

Thank you very much for your detailed analysis - certainly helpful.

I'm not quite sure what to make of the tin though if it has indeed been restored, they've done a good job.

Looking inside the tin my impression has always been that a coin has never seen the inside. I could be mistaken though.

Anyway, I shall study it more closely tomorrow.

            Best regards,
            Toby.

                I'll try a rough translation:

The tin is original, the label too. However, as often happens, the tin has been newly painted and the label re-applied. I compiled a catalogue of WHW collecting tins.

@ Guy - Thanks for your reply.

                Mfg/Best,
                Toby.

                  Guy, kein problem!

Guy agrees with me that the tin is original but has been repainted. He also thinks that the label is original but was removed and added back onto the repainted tin. He has made a study of these WHW tins and has cataloged them.

LOL you beat me to it Toby

                    Hello Toby,

I recently bought one of these tins (see pics) and would like to know more about the tins and the WHW. There is very little on the WAF about these. It is not in the best condition but I like it!
