My Memorial Statue

I made a deal with the owner of this Statue a month ago and I picked it up this weekend at a show in Raleigh,NC. I feel very Lucky as all of these folks are looking and Hunting for one of these and..Boom, I ran up on it and called the guy at 7am to reserve it. I know that the Pictures are Crappy, I haven't taken any good ones yet. I was so in a Hurry to get it on here, I used the Dealer's Pictures. Enjoy, Butch

Dear Jerry,

Having now done further research, it appears that Gauleiter Adolf Wagner was indeed laid to rest in a grave dug into the large lawn that stretched between the North Temple and the Brown House. The internet discloses photos of the funeral cortege that accompanied the body from the Feldherrnhalle to the Königsplatz -- the same route taken each November 9th by those who solemnly observed the annual "Martyrs Memorial" -- and there is one color photo that clearly shows a large mound of floral arrangements and swastika ribbons on the ground just opposite the staircase to the North Temple, as one would expect to see covering a grave after the body was interred. Since Wagner's funeral took place in April of 1944 and the last observance of the events of 8/9 November took place in 1943, this funeral would have been the last large public event to take place at the Temples of Honor; indeed, since the enormous British air raid on 9/10 March 1943 destroyed much of the Brown House and the historic museums around the Königsplatz -- though missing entirely the Honor Temples, the Führerbau and the Party Administration Building -- the Wagner funeral must have been an even more somber event than it might have been.

There is a wonderful resource titled "Bürokratie und Kult" -- Bureacuracy and Cult -- published in German in 1995 which tells the story of the Nazi buildings on the Königsplatz. I bought a copy at the gift shop in the Museum Annex located in the former NSDAP Administration Building. On p.172 I found this comment about the aftermath of the Temples of Honor:

Die hölzernen Särge mit den sterblichen Überresten der "Blutzeugen", die sich im Innern der Sarkophage befanden, wurden Anfang Juli 1945 in den Grabstätten Beigesetzt, denen sie vor ihrer Überführung am 9. November 1935 entnommen worden waren. Im Rahmen derselben Aktion wurde auch die Leiche des im April 1944 hinter dem nördlichen "Ehrentempel" beigesetzten Gauleiters Adolf Wagner exhumiert.

Here is my annotated vernacular translation:

On November 9, 1935 the sixteen “Martyrs of the Movement” were transported into the Honor Temples built for them. At the beginning of July, 1945 the wooden coffins containing the mortal remains of the “blood-witnesses” that were inside of the sarcophaguses in the shrines [the body of each of the sixteen “Martyrs” was enclosed within a wooden coffin and placed inside a tin container within a sarcophagus made of cast-iron] were removed for reburial. At the same time the corpse of Gauleiter Adolf Wagner – which had been buried behind the northern “Honor Temple” – was exhumed.

This text underscores where Wagner's body was buried and verifies the photo I mentioned above.

good work. i saw where the american army cremated his remains and scattered them.

lookin at the pics again you can see that the gravesite is indeed offset to the northern temple.
