    Unique NSDAP armband

Hello, I have had this armband in my collection for a good number of years, and I wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts regarding the pinned number and pip.

Do you think this was perhaps period done? (armband is of cotton material, not wool and both number and pip have two metal prongs both still firmly attached)

The armband looks from the photos to be un-used and near pristine for its age but the number and pip are both worn, id say post add on IMO, regards Sean

I agree. The early SA used numbers/pips/insignia on their armbands (1920s), but the early armbands were not made of these 30s/40s style materials.

Thank you both for your reply.

So, do you think the armband / number and pip are real? May have just added post war?

Makes me wonder however as the prongs are both flattened under the disk. It would take some skill for whomever to do this.

            Hmm, this one puzzles me.

Who can say for sure if they are "real", it would be nothing for me in any event, sorry.

Armband looks a little strange but it may just be the pictures. It is possible to get the pins in and flatten them over the base cloth. There is more than one layer of cloth with the disk and swastika. Many vets pinned different things to their trophy's. There are belts among other items that can be full of random pins etc. I'd just leave it as it is. And yes, the pip and number looks used compared to the armband itself which looks to be unissued.

I agree with the others, they are add on, and almost certainly not period.

Wouldn't take that much doing to poke the prongs through and flatten them out. You could easily feel the tips through the material on the other side, and just flatten them down - But yes, whoever put them there put thought into the placement, and took care doing it so as not to make it look half assed.

My curiousity got to me and I decided to remove the number and pip. And, to my surprise, both sparkled/had a shine (from underneath) like they were made just yesterday. Once they were removed, I held a black light up to the armband, and the white circle had a very bright glow to it. All other material (red and black) did not glow.

With that said, do you think that the armband is legit with its' glowing white circle? Or, is this glowing center a dead give-a-way that it's a reproduction.

If it's glowing a bright electric blue with no mottling to the glow, I would say it's a reproduction. If it's a subtle glow, or if it glows more in some areas of the white disc than others, it may have been washed or cleaned. Looking at it again, I suspect it's the former.

In this hobby you have always surprises. A bit different but in the same line: Wim Saris also confirmed for me this variation with a picture from the period.

                          Regards, Wim
