[QUOTE=jabnus;4678548]Of course i agree to the purpose of Deschler making new awarddesigns, money rules the world, even in Third Reich Germany, but the CB was mainly a badge that you would expect not to be getting many new future recipients? When looking at most of the Deschler prototyps those were indeed of the type to be possible to be awarded massively in the future, but the CB was so high in prestige due to the for the party historical significance? Imagine someone having lost an Ek or RK in battle and then recieving a new one with a completely different design and enamel and etc? Higly unlikely i think? The same with the CB. I would expect someone when having a lost or damaged CB badge to recieve a new one, JUST LIKE the previous badge (this is the second type). Having a new CB badge with white enameled parts seems strange to me? one Alte Kämpfer to the other: "But were you in Coburg"? --> "NO! But i did do this or that and got me later this nice white enameled CB"!!! Not very likely....! Ah well, perhaps im speculating too much. i wonder who has bought that prototype and if we wil ever see uncensored clear photo's of it.

Hi Gaston, Niemann just acknowledges the existence of the silver badges and nothing more. As far as the prototype badge, it was probably produced in hopes that those who had the early badge may want to upgrade it after the decree of 1936, and as we know it never caught on. The CB badge like the 1st pattern BO were event badges/medals and if you participated you were awarded one or the other. Honor awards of the BO were most likely the second striking and if any honor awards were given of the CB they were probably the 2nd type badges or the special silver one. best, Erich

For those who don't have the Niemann catalog at hand, his entry for the "Silver, swastika red enamelled" version includes the notation: "There are 436 awards of [the bronze version] but only 2 known examples of [the sliver version]" and he does not say who received those two badges. He prices the silver version as "LP," meaning: "An LP (Liebhaberpreis) indicated against the price means that the piece rarely appear for sale and so an average price cannot be determined and such rare pieces will fetch whatever the purchaser is prepared to pay."

      Hope this is helpful,

      Br. James

Andreas, I have no issues with the screw back modification and think that it's a cool badge.

                    transvision,

A very good question taking into consideration and as Erich says, the prominence and prestige of this badge coupled together with the fact that they kept tract and there was a listing of the recipients.

I wonder if a person in Germany with some diligence could track down any of the recipients.

                        Jon,

Old for sure but not necessarily all gone. And as I say, with some diligence, perhaps contacting family or relatives and with luck, uncovering a badge or related material.

(is that Erich standing in line at the air port?)

                        John

                          Hi John,
Its not easy. I have contacted over 200 families of blood Order holders with less than a handful of positive results and even then no material Closest I got- the son of a winner who THREW all his fathers items out 12 months previously as he himself was now in his late 70's and clearing out ready to leave no mess for his children upon his death.
Tough out there uncovering material and trying to find a coburg holder still alive who is findable and then willing to talk , one in a thousand chance I think.

A Coburg Badge recipient still alive?!

                            What are you dreaming about?

Yes, John I'm in line at the airport waiting for my fight to Munich to interview a Coburg Vet and take possession of his Coburg Badge!

Boy, I wish that was possible, but I'm sure most if not all are now in Valhalla. We know that anniversaries were held prewar but I think like BO holders most were trying to escape their NAZI past and keep a low profile in the new Germany so my guess that reunions were far and few between.

No, not RK holders but every bit as important IMO!
