Here is a photo of the special CB belonging to Chris. We know that Hitler made honor awards of my important medals and badges such as the BO and GPB. So, an honor award of the CB isn't too far fetched IMO.

      Dear Joe,

Thanks for calling my attention to the Littlejohn/Dodkins book of 1968 -- one of the very first books on our hobby I ever bought, and it was hot off the press at that time! I had long forgotten his reference to this unique version of this most unique badge. As to Albert Bormann's association with it, I have to wonder whether Hitler might have taken pity on poor Albert when he complained to his Führer that his brother received the Blood Order and he didn't? (As we know, Martin was not present during the Putsch, just as Albert wasn't there for the Battle of Coburg!) This most unique Coburg Badge would have stood out even more obviously than the BO ribbon that Martin enjoyed wearing everywhere!

As an aside, on p.67 of the same book there is reference to a "Silver Party Badge" w/a facsimile of Hitler's signature on the reverse...also with a questionable (to me at least) fastening device that resembles cheap jewelry of more modern times. Has there been any discussion of this badge here on WAF, or has anyone ever seen one or knows any more about it than the scant few sentences David Littlejohn uses to describe it?

      Wonderful topics all!

Don't be disheartened, Mike...most of us will never own a Coburg Badge, or a Blood Order either, for that matter! You have what we all want, even if it isn't silver with a red enamel swas!! Cheers, mate,

Many years ago around 73,or 74 when they had the last LA gun show before they moved it to pomona, I saw the SPB in the case signed by hitler on the back for sale...it is shown in the book you mentioned, but i have never seen another(i believe they fake them now). It was 150. at the time, and i wanted to buy it, can't recall why i didn't because i had the book and was into PB's. I believe I just may have spaced it out , or it got bought, Still, i have never seen another, and the problem with books in that time was there was few back shots, except that badge did have one , but no case shot . The box reminded me at the time of the eagle order sorta in a way(red morrocan leather), as it was really large for such a small badge, but That was before digital cameras, and i didnt take photos of it at the time. It was a beautiful badge ,looked like real silver, and later the consensus was there never was such a badge, although personally, i believe there was, as the one i saw was exactly the same as the one in the book. I have never forgotten it, and my remorse for not buying it when i saw it for sale. There was someone at that show who walked in and carried in a 9mm luger shell in their pocket, and for those who recall the show they walked up to a table with a luger for sale ,they were "looking at, and when the dealer was not paying attention, chambered that round and then set the luger back down and walked away. Nobody knew they had done that, and then a customer walked up , pressed the pistols end of the barrel to his palm and like the nimrod he was , pulled the trigger, the round went through his palm, hit the concrete floor, and bounced up between the tables behind the vendor, as he was facing the customer, and lodged into the concrete wall above my head as i sat at my table about 6 rows away. They never found the person who chambered the round, but i can still hear the report, and the shell hitting the wall above my head. I bet there may still be some here that recall that show in california, but i cant recall the shows location as the last time before they moved it but seems it was at another fair ground. Just another story of the one that got away we all have in our own regrets from the past" file. That show also had a propane water cooled machine gun for sale, that was used in war movies where it had a selenoid hooked to the switch , and it actually flashed at the end , and made small explosions as it fired at the flash hider, anybody recall that gun ?

Mijke, thanks for posting your outstanding badge on this thread. I'm hoping that more members who have a CB will post them here as well.

Thanks so much, Juoneen, for your report on actually seeing a cased Silver Party Badge -- much appreciated! If my memory serves -- and it often doesn't these latter days -- I can't recall ever seeing this Silver Party Badge mentioned in any of the other common reference works -- Detlev Niemann, Adrian Forman or Jack Angolia. But of course that doesn't mean that there aren't examples of this badge lurking out there in collections...

Thanks, too, for sharing that story about the jerk who loaded a Luger and walked away from the table -- one can just imagine if some kid came up and held the barrel to his little brother's head as a joke... What a sick and tragic story; one which I had never heard before. There's a lesson there, too.

Interesting that the enameled Coburg badge was not made of silver--why someone would go to the trouble to have new and better detailed dies cut, multi-piece construction, glass enameling and not have the piece made of genuine silver is a mystery.
There was also the idea brought forth years ago that the silvered pieces were privately commissioned by an awardee who had the desire and the means for a more impressive version of the decoration.

According to Chris the special CB is actually made of silver but is not hallmarked as such.

                        LA Show

I was at that show in east LA & remember the gun going off. Never knew it was a Luger. I had a Grand Cross at that show & sold it for $600 big money then. Knights crosses cased were under a $1000. & many for sale. EK 1st class were $75 all day long. I remember buying a 1870 2nd with a non combatant ribbon for $35 at that show. Good times but a scary location I was pleased when Mary & Frank moved it to LA County fairgrounds in Pomona. And I was with them until the last one. Even during the riots when we got all set up on Thursday just to pack up & go home on Friday.

Refreshing my memory in my worn copy of Littlejohn/Dodkins, I am struck by the rather stark simplicity of the silver badge. To call it a Silver Party Badge is somewhat of a stretch when viewing it from the front. It is but a simple swastika. There is no lettering indicating the NSDAP or anything association with the movement. For all intents and purposes, it could be a good luck pin.

Juoneen, you wrote the one you saw at the LA show was identical? No lettering, only the swaz on the silver pin?

Relative to these unmarked party type pins with a plain obverse, swaz and with no lettering and the reverse having a facsimile of the AH signature thet were purportedly presented to foreigners. At a MAX show several years back (10 years?) there was about six of them offered at that show. All were in the red faux Moroccan leather and unusually over sized cases. (also often offered at Manions several times) I know that one sold at that MAX show but as the buyer ventured the show and discovered more like examples for sale, he quickly returned his to the seller for a refund. At that show initial offerings were priced at $1,000. but later were offered for $200. At the time I also had an interest but before hand I inquired with Joe Pankowski and Chuck Scaglione and they both said that they were new fabrications recently made in England.
Deja vu of the SS Breast badge at this years SOS show.

I don't know if this award to foreigners has ever been confirmed although purportedly ascribed by Littlejohn & Dodkins and subsequently plagiarized thereafter in other text books.

However, let's not confuse this with the legitimate silver versions of the Gold Party Badge sets that were made for inclusion in the large presentation Knights Cross case.
