Coburg Plaque Count (1942 & Unknown)

Updated plaque count. I added an unknown section to this post.

There are 2 known versions of Coburg plaques shown in this thread; 1941 and 1942. Below is my quick compilation of the known 1942 Coburg plaques based off my personal knowledge and after conducting a page by page search of the current 132 pages of this thread:

    1942

Der-Hasse-Fee (1 - mounted on plaque cracked, sold thru Weitze?)

Erich S (1 - just the upper portion framed)

    So that is 2 x 1942 plaques.

Coburg Badge Count (Prototype, Hollow Silver & Type 1)

      Updated badge count.

There are 5 different versions of the Coburg badge discussed in this thread (I did not break down the Type 2 by RZM or RZM 189 or different location of RZM mark). Below is my quick compilation of the known badges based off my personal knowledge and after conducting a page by page search of the current 132 pages of this thread:

      Deschler Prototype

Thies (1 - appears to be same one sold thru Weitze years ago)

So that is 1 x Deschler prototype.

Hollow (thought to be fake by some)

      Seen by juoeen (1)

      Wolfe (1)

      Empire Auction (1)

      Total of 3 Hollow versions

Silver Version (originality debated over many pages)

      Rasmussen (1)

Ailsby (1 - from Dodkin collection)

      Total of 2 silver versions

      Type 1

      Erich B (1)
      Stan (1)
      Wolfe (1)
      Kyle Harrington (1)
      Bob Hritz (2)
      Coburg (1)
      HH Auction (3)
      Kai Winkler (1)
      Weitze (1 - Screwback)
      Martin M (1)
      Der-Hase-Fee (2)
      Mijke (1)
      Transvision (1)
      SOS (2)
Greg Domain (1 - double rings on lugs)
Munich Dealer (1 - with double pins)
      Jon Fish (1)
      Frank Scholtz (1)
      Military (2)
      Steve C (1)
      SMV (1)
      Chen (1)
      Gary B (1 - former Erich S collection)
      Dealer (1)
      Jason Burmeister (1)
      M Zimmer (1 - broken tower, sold)

So that is a maximum of 32 Type 1s. This does not take into account/consideration that some of those listed above might be double counted (i.e. sold by one member and purchased later by someone else and listed again)

Sorry for the quality of the pictures but we are remodeling and all our stuff it crammed into a few rooms to allow us to remodel the rest of the house. Here are pictures of my repaired Coburg plate so that it can be compared with the other known example and of my 1941 Coburg plaque. It took considerable gymnastics ability to get these photos with the cramped conditions in which they are confined.

You make your own luck as a collector a lot of the time.

Congratulations, and also to everyone who have presented some wonderful artefacts on this thread.

Congrats, M. Zimmer! While copies of "Kampf um Coburg" are not particularly rare, they are expensive, and to find one with a dust jacket is quite a plus!

This book was published only by Franz Eher Verlag, in 1939, 1941 and 1943; which edition did you find?

                Again, congrats!

This one is a first edition from 1939, it is not in a perfect condition, but rare and was not so expensive. At zvab.com are examples offered beginning with € 120,-
What would be a real price in your opinion?

                    Hi Gary,

Thank you for compiling the info about the badges! I agree that while it may not be fully accurate, it does present the information that we can find from the forum. Excellent job. I would only remove the hollow type as I don't think it was accepted.

                      Hi M. Zimmer,

The out-of-print book service I use is BookFinder.com, where you'll find copies of "Kampf um Coburg" beginning at US$160.00 up to as high as US$750.00 -- and of course condition is imperative as well as relative! Today's exchange rate is listed at 1 € = 1.17 US$, so the figure you quoted -- €120.00 -- would equal about US$141.00. so you got a very good deal, my friend!

                      Cheers,

                      Br. James

Good to see the Coburg Thread well and alive! Seems that more members appreciate such a rare badge as opposed to just 5 years ago where only a very small handful knew what those were.

Interesting to note that there are approx 60+ badges in collectors hands today. Notably of 436 type 1s, 32 exists! The full list - Credits to Gary B for all the hard work, Thank you Gary - Amazing detective work!!! Personally it will be helpful to cross-check those badges below as I believe those belonging to dealers would have now been sold to (potentially) members and some duplicates may exist (as Gary pointed out). This is the most up-to-date statistics we have, so thank you Gary B.!!!

I wonder who has the most CBs in his collection?

I found something very interesting in a Coburger Chronicle, Harald Sandner „ Coburg im 20. Jahrhundert „.
Maybe this is the answer how many first pattern CB were awarded.
