    Oberfuhrer tabs-maybe! Comments please.

    Here are some mystery tabs for your comments. These were sold to me as SS-Oberfuhrer, but notice the construction. They are not bullion, but white cotton cording material. The RZM Tag is original, but obviously not to this pair of tabs. They are top quality, with fine wool, and high quality canvass backing material. The work is of the quality you would expect from tabs for this high level an officer.

    I will tell you that two of the top SS cloth collectors in the US have done a hands on of these. Their conclusion is that they are of quality construction, and appear to be TR period manufacture. However, neither collector has seen anything quite like them.

          The "B" Tag. This was probably applied to give the tabs an SS connection, or is it? Wouldn't a cotton embroidered tab be a "B"?

              Actually the "B" code makes sense for these tabs. The presentation and proportions are interesting, but they just can't be.

                  Well Chris, I went with my Gut reaction and then I went back and looked at what you wrote. Those are really bad recreations. I have seen fake SS Bullion Insignia copied with this type of embroidery before. They are just crapola. Sorry, hope you did not lay much cash into them.

                    Not really. I picked these up when I first started collecting SS cloth. We live and learn with SS. As I studied and learned more, I decided they were not SS, but I had hoped that they were perhaps some other TR organization or a weird SS variant. The quality looks good hands on, and like I said, two big time collectors have told me they were period.

                    Any other comments in support of a refund from the guy I bought then from could be helpful.

                      If they are period, my vote would be that they were SA Berlin-Brandenburg. In my experience, SA tabs are more prone to variation than SS ones...

                              Good thought. SA would make sense. The tag was just added post-war...
