Very nice, and I agree--usually you find one set and the chances of finding a matching mate to make a pair is pretty much unlikely.
The buttons used for cufflinks for the brownshirt are usually held together with a spring loop, as used for attaching the buttons to the front of the shirt. I've seen some, though, that were looped together with baling wire or tied together with brownshirt colored thread--basically anything that would hold the buttons together.

I've seen where the actual gold tone buttons [eagle& Swas] were used for cufflinks!
There were the cuff button which was a ridge piece you would just push thru the sleeve holes. There was also the 'toggle' type which is what we usually see today in 'cufflinks',,,and last the true cufflink, which is what we see here.
These are private purchase pieces and yes, very early and yes very nice!
