i believe the metal badge is a qualified drivers patch and original. is the other just a cloth version of the same patch?

its the first type of the Kraftfahrraute also worn by the Motor-SA.

Both look fine. The cloth version is considered the 2nd. pattern.
(Note the squared off wings). Check out the pinned thread (NSKK collector's show your stuff) there's an explaination on the sleeve diamonds.
