Unnumbered Blood Orders?

Does anyone of you have an idea how many of unnumbered ones are in collections nowadays? Or known today?

Does anyone know more about the finding of unnumbered ones in the 80th? We had the question "where and by whom?"

That was my original question with this thread. Erich mentioned a small batch being discovered in Germany which is the same story I heard. From what I heard they were all 2nd patterns. Maybe Erich will chime in with more info.

One school of thought was that the unnumbered Orders were given to the families of the fallen but I'm of the camp that thinks that a miniature version of the BO was given to the families. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I think they were more likely un-awarded pieces that were held to use as replacements or potential new awards. While there would have been no need to stockpile huge amounts of BOs, it would seem logical that there would have been at least a small supply on hand.
