    30mm Fuess Gold Party Badge

Ok, just a small idea maybe worth a small discussion, please no bullets but I always believed it strange this company is not a maker of the larger badge as well as the smaller one.

Now on page 302 of Detlev Niemann's book (2nd ed.) there is pictured a very odd double set of badges..

    1. Deschler marked 30mm, #95028
    2. Deschler marked 24mm #95028

    3. Fuess marked 24mm #95028
    4. Ges. Gesch marked 30mm #95028

Please notice all badges have the same #.. is a double set of badges to the same Party Member.

There is a logical idea that the larger pins with the hinge block type of pin might be the Fuess 30mm.

    What do you think?

Fuess and Deschler have a completely different look, especially in the leaves/ring. I would be very surprised if Fuess made a large badge. The background (as I know it) is that the large badges were somewhat of an after thought when people realized the small ones were not 'obvious' or 'easily seen'.

So it is viewed that 1 maker, Deschler made both of the 30mm badges with the same issue #95028 shown in the book?

The reverses of those 2 badges are completely different, chalk and cheese, not just the pin arrangement, but everything, there is not one aspect of the reverse of those 2 badges that match, apart from they're both gold coloured and 30.5mm dia.

When other items such as Para, pilot, IAB badges etc are being called fakes because one letter of the maker mark is a bit misformed compared to what is considered the norm, then this is strange indeed. I am NOT suggesting anything is not original, just bizarre it's considered the same maker, and wonder if anyone can tell me why?

Deschler 30mm badges had more than one style reverse and the ones in the book are real. Fuess like already said only made the 24mm badge.

I did a study in backs at: http://worldwarmilitaria.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=2479. The backs can be a little bit of anything.

I do agree everything is above board, only why the different chalk and cheese reverse make up from the same company? On a badge with the same issue #?
Deschler seems to be making all manner of different backs, their other badges are apparently quite consistant.
It's interesting, that quartet of badges.

Deschler is the only maker of the large gold party badge. Different backs exist depending on type of pin attachment and when the badge was made. It also varies according to whether the badge is the numbered or "AH" honour version.

The majority were made when the badges were first awarded, and have a similar back. Safety pin back ones had the maker name on the pinplate, so there was no need to have the maker name impressed on the back too, but they often had "GES. GESCH." above the pin as part of the die.

"Military pin" backs had no pinplate and were from a different die. Presumably dies wore out as well and were replaced with slight changes.

The die for the gold wreath part of the badge was of course a separate piece from the enameled front.

Normally Deshler is the only maker of the 30 mm badge. But that's not written in stone. I'm aware of at least one testimony made by a son of J. Fuess who claimed that Hitler ordered a complete set (in genuine gold) for someone. But of course I'm the first to say: I want to see such thing before I believe it. With this, I only want to point out that it is very difficult to tell exactly how everything was going on in that time. Very often we can only assume ....

There is a lot of info at that forum for GPB, but I cannot see any pics of the badges, there is a member there Win Vangossum who has done some good referencing and I look forward to wading through the info, but for now he posted as part of his on going research thread...

"is accompanied with a copy of a letter written by Erwin Fuess back in 1972. In this letter Herr Erwin Fuess claimed that both the large and the small party badge were made in the Fuess House and that on Hitler’s special demand were made of 585 gold."

It is possible also someone else might have made some other than Fuess.
No-one is looking at the 4 badges with the same number it seems, myself I try and work out how it came to be the guy had this particular combo of badges.

sorry for being a pain, but I'm Scottish so every penny that leaves the hand burns, and these badges cost many pennies, so homework required before buying.

                    Hi Colin,

I'm a moderator of that other forum dedicated to Gold Party Badges.

I've never seen anywhere a large GPB that was Fuess marked or differed in pattern from the large "Deschler". Do you have one in mind you are thinking of spending your "pennies" on?

The Fuess letter seems to be referring to a special "one-off" presentation set of Gold Party Badges, because I have never seen a real set made of actual gold. Even Hitler's personal badge found by the Russians in the Bunker was the ordinary large Deschler made of gilded brass.

There are many stories of actual gold presentation badges (to and from Hitler), but virtually all turn out to be fakes. I have handled some of these myself for "authentication". Herr Fuess (assuming his memory is intact) may be recalling one of the few, very rare, presentation sets made as a one-off, but I think the risk of your running across one of these to spend your pennies on is slim to none. If Fuess made a few special badges of actual gold, it makes sense they did the work even though Deschler made all the ordinary large Gold Party Badges - Deschler was a badge maker and Fuess was an actual jeweler.

I've seen GPB sets of up to 6 different badges with various pin set ups, including owner-added variations and jeweler repairs, as the pins were notorious for falling off. Some were kept in a box in the owner's dresser, others worn every day on a uniform or lapel with different attachments (safety pin, buttonhole tab, or "military pin").

Before you spend any pennies, there are lots of people here and on other forums who'll have a look at a badge for you before you buy.

                        Hi Dean,

Hope I'm not breaking any rules of this wonderful forum, but you'll find it below and also near the bottom of the homepage of my Gold Party Pin website (link below).

Thanks. I Didn't mean to put you in a awkward position.

No problem at all. This is all about sharing information and learning from each other, and the Gold Party Badge is a fascinating subject. By the way, you can also get a short primer and photos on my own Gold Party badge website below.
