I remember a long time ago a blank back showed up ….. but once you zoomed in , you could still see traces of the old numbers. It had been carefully ground flat and then someone reapplied a Gold finish (that didn’t match the front)
That’s not the case here though.

Might a badge like this have been used as one for a sales display or other display purpose?

      Bob.

Just saw this thread - yep, it's a real one. And don't pass because it's un-numbered. That makes it a rare bird indeed, although obviously not traceable.

I've only seen a couple of un-numbered GPBs. If it was a factory pick-up, it's the first I've heard of from Deschler, and I'd expect it to look more minty. I don't think so because it clearly looks well worn - no silver left to the front and gilding worn down to brass on the front. A wild, unsupported guess is that the badge was repaired because of a damaged wreath (hard to do but possible) and an entire new wreath was put on, but someone forgot to number or engrave it as a separate piece when it went out the door to the local jeweler doing the work. GPBs were generally factory numbered by Deschler either with the same number dies or rotograved by hand on a template. I've never heard of them sending out a blank badge to be engraved locally with a replacement number, but I can't think of anythign else. And then the person never got around to getting it done, and wore the badge anyway.

Like I said, wild guess only.

Taken home by a Deschler employee as a souvenir? Only if you wanted a holiday in a KZ Lager.

It's not for a period tailor dummy either. Here's what they looked like:

I can't fully explain the lack of a number, but it is real. Value? Can't say as there are not many comparables. There's an argument for them being more valuable based on rarity, but also a lower value based on general desireability to the wider collecting community.

Thanks for pointing that out Stephen , I should have clarified my statement but , I fixed it. I ended up with an RZM License that came from a Gent who took anything NS related home from the Factory he worked at after the War ..so it was done , just not during "the show".
And I doubt they made a Salesmans Sample Board version using real unmarked examples ...so that doesn't leave us many options.

Sorry to go off-topic, but Mike, those RZM retail licenses are outstanding!

Thanks Stephen ..as you can see I have 2 different Companies there and , it's interesting to see how the yearly Dues were recorded ( I'll post a shot)
I was told the Gent had taken samples/examples of almost everything they dealt with but, all of that was sold before I had a shot at it ...at least I got the Paperwork.

This is a great thread. And I agree with The Gold Party Pin Guy--Those Documents are exotic! The Color RZM and Party Badge symbol with the stamps and signatures are too Sweet!

As to the Unmarked Badge - What a lesson. Unmarked - Wrong Pin Plate, but, as stated - An Original none the less. (I defer to Stephen and the others Learned Opinion..) I think the Fire gilding is very Nice. One Member said ..."wouldn't mind having it in my collection."
                  I second that!

                  Great Collection Guys!

How have you been Bob ? ..Long time no see !!
I'm glad you like the RZM docs

Dion …As Stephen already mentioned , some Collectors prefer their GPB’s numbered so they can hunt for a “face” to put with them and many only feel safe buying "Textbook" examples…others (like myself) would be interested in this because it’s out of the ordinary. So , I guess it comes down to personal preference .
Well , good luck with it and thanks for sharing it .

Wow, this turned into a great thread , not what I originally set out for.

Thank you all for the contributions, very educational, teaches me to spend a little less time with the military stuff

                        Hello Mike!
I'm great, thanks for asking. And back to those documents you have! As the Germans would say..."Ausgezeichnet!"(Outstanding!)
                        Sincerely,
                        Bob Clark
