    SA Eagle with RZM 36

    Gentlemen,

this SA cap eagle has a faint RZM marking with the RZM code 36. I have never seen a RZM36 eagle code and as far as i know, most have codes like M1/36 etc.

    Is this a genuine piece?

    your learned opinions please.
    many thanks.

    Mil

There was a brief period (about Jan to May, 1935) when RZM license numbers were issued before they introduced the "M" prefix, so this would date from then.

          Eagle

There were many manufacturers of these early eagles, so they DO vary. The reverse looks too shiny, and I'm not keen on the eagle's head. If I HAD to bet, I'd lean on the side of it not being a good one. Even though these eagles were fairly cheaply made, the striking details are usually more crisp. Here are 2 examples.

                  Eagle

I would like to add that, since there ARE many variations of this insignia, it MAY be good. Regardless, if I was going to buy one, I look for a better one.

excellent pieces. what RZM codes are both of them? the first one sure looks like a stunner.

first eagle at first appears repaired, Like the flatwire came off, and was goobed with solder(LSide) to help hold it, maybe done when made, as other side appears to have run downward. Its most likely original , but i like the second one front details a bit more, and usually both sides soldering are consistant with a short 90 soldered flat to the back. id say still an unusual mark.

                          Eagle

The 2nd eagle with the red wool background doesn't appear to have a number, just the RZM logo. The 3rd example is on an early SS visor cap and I don't know what markings it has.
