    James,
I have seen close up pics and it is a Christian Cross for sure.

The cross is a plain one perhaps the cross of the Roman Catholic charitable order Gelbes Kreuz. She began to call herself Sr Pia when working for them so it seems. She was never a registered nurse from what I can read.

I agree with Tony & Erich, I believe it's a Christian cross. By the way Erich, I love the Putsch/ Mahnmal grouping display you started this thread with, and of course all the other posts that have followed it. Best Regards, Michael

              Hi Erich,

I certainly agree that the cross Sr. Pia is wearing is a Christian symbol, no doubt about that, but my earlier comment was in differentiating between a "cross" and a "crucifix" -- the former describes the shape of the design while the latter includes Christ's corpus. This symbolism is carried through in the two different designs for German Army Chaplain's Neck Crosses: the Lutheran/Protestant version is a plain cross design and the Roman Catholic version clearly includes the corpus.

It seems that the German Roman Catholic charitable organization, Gelbes Kreuz -- Yellow Cross, still exists, and that their symbol is a plain, unadorned cross such as the photos of Sr. Pia show her wearing. From the definition of Gelbes Kreuz I've read, they are a service organization providing home care for invalids and shut-ins...which would seem to coincide with what I've read of Sr. Pia's early years when she served in a similar manner without actually being a trained nurse.

Hope this is helpful, my friend,

              Br. James

Correct James, she wore a plain cross and not a crucifix.

This is the first time I've seen the Boss wearing just the blood order ribbon on it's own. He didn't always wear the blood order of course either, so this is an even rarer image IMO.

Very interesting shot. It's one of his wartime double breasted jackets so nowhere to hang the award from. Hence the ribbon only I guess.

I agree, this is the only pic I have seen of him wearing just the ribbon. I have seen this photo before, but I can't remember where ? Looks to be a war time meeting of the "Old Fighters".

Nice photo, Jon...looks like it may have been taken at the Bürgerbräukeller at one of the November 8th gatherings of the Old Guard, which continued into the war years. Perhaps this was Hitler's arrival at that event in 1939, when Elser attempted to assassinate him?

I remember seeing a photo of Hitler from the 38RPT I think, where he is wearing just the ribbon on his Brownshirt. This is the first I have seen him wearing the ribbon on his tunic.

Here you can make out the ribbon on his BS. This photo is from the 38 RPT.

Br James I think this is later than that. I have a feeling that in the shots of that night he's seen in his Field grey uniform rather than FG Jacket and black trousers. I'd have to check.

ED: Having checked, he is in fact wearing the jacket and black trousers so yes this could well be his entry or exit from the event in 39.
