    Reichskanzlei mystery box help wanted!

Here we have a small horde taken from the Reichskanzlei in 1945, the item that I want help with is the wooden box.

Does anyone know exactly what it is? (I think it is somekind of gift box that has been given to Hitler, it is marked with a Der Führer "sticker", other stuff in the horde has another "sticker" with Reichskanzlei der NSDAP. The sticker leads me to believe that it was a gift to Hitler at some point of time, i.e. his private property.

Does anyone know what these boxes used to contain?
Any additional info or input on the box is appriciated, even suggestions about its value.

Hi, apart from the sticker applied to the box, what evidence is there that this came from the reichskanzei?
The quality of the box doesnt look that good, i showed your pictures to my father, hes a carpenter and he states the Swastika was very poor and out of shape and not what would be expected from a skilled craftsman, Hitler recieved private gifts from the public, maybe this is one of them? just a guess Sean

I would agree with Sean's view. It was probably made by an adoring member of the public as a gift to the Fuhrer. The quality suggests this was an 'amateur' production. It may have lain in a postroom or store room in the Reichskanzlei for all any one knows; perhaps the Fuhrer never even laid eyes on it. Or maybe he did. That is lost to history I'm afraid. I suspect that like today's politicians, the Fuhrer received tens of thousands of gifts from both rich and poor, but mainly poor people who could nonetheless knock up a small homemade gift in the workshop. The box could have been used to spirit away souvenirs from the building or it could have been filled at a later stage. Again, that is lost to history.

The fact remains that it is still a very nice item and if nothing else, a witness from history to the affection in which the Fuhrer was held by many of the German people.

The above of course is speculation, it could have been given to AH by his mother for his 21st birthday

Thanks for the input guys, it is indeed interesting.

About the quality of the box, I would say it is/has been better than the pictures reveal, I think it has been stored inproperly in damp conditions, which has a bad effect on the wood, it tends to "lift" or "swell" a bit.

The one think that puzzles me is the text "Und Ihr habt doch gesiegt", isn´t that the same text that is found on the Blood Order?

Probably this was a gift to the Führer and it might have contained something, from who it was is impossible to say.

The one thing that I know for sure is that the box was taken from the Reichskanzlei 1945 by a British Officer, so that is how I know that it comes from the Reichskanzlei, because the box comes and the stuff comes directly from the British vets family.

As we all know, the Russians got there first. Consequently, they got all the good stuff. But it was nice of them to leave all this for their British friends. When was this vet supposedly there?

I don't remember the book, but I remember reading about Hitler explaining to a visitor that he kept all of the gifts (except for food, drinkables, and flowers) that were sent to him. He admitted that some of them were not very artistic or well made, but he had them all stored nonetheless. I would agree with Sean and David that this may have been a gift from a member of the grateful public. 'Und Ihr habt doch gesiegt' is indeed on the Blood Order, the Gau München badge, commemorative coins and table medals, generally in reference to the failed 1923 Putsch. I don't remember where specifically the gifts were stored, but he got tons of them, so there may also have been some in the Führerbau in München, at the Obersalzberg, etc. And if the Brit vet was like the GIs, he might have traded cigarettes or chocolate for it from an enterprising peddler in 1945.

Yes, the Soviets got there first, but I doubt they were keen souvenir hunters. Of course high end and personal AH objects would be taken, but wooden box and some ordinary medals most likely not. Have seen footage from the entrance of the building, Soviets going in and out and the whole area at the front of the building littered with cased German orders, just kicked around
