OPINION on Olympic Games Decoration 2nd Class

    Fellow collectors,

I would like your opinions on this Olympic Decoration. The seller has described it as having a few of hairline cracks.... looks a bit more than that to me. Price is $650...so probably too good to be true but thought i'd ask anyway.

    Thanks
    Pierce

i am in no way and expert but i do have the miniature of this medal though and the main thing i can say is the qaulity of work on this type of decoration is very high so if the finish is a bit shabby and i dont mean shabby through age then bad. The 2 rivets on the back is correct and i think they were all non maker marked. Here is my mini as you can see the detail is very crisp even on a decoration an inch big

Compared with the one on the link i posted, i like it i bit battered but imo a good one.BUT I AM NO EXPERT.I know what you mean though is the £300 odd quid to good to be true seen as the one posted is nearer the £700 but that one is mint.

I think it is a real cross, but has been really knocked around a lot, and the ribbon looks re-sewn. It should be priced accordingly...Tom

                        Olympic Games Cross 2nd Class

                        Pierce,

The Cross you show in this thread is almost certainly original but is in relic condition. I paid Forman £280 for mine but that was back in 1984. Before paying £300 for this damaged cross you will have to remember that one day you will almost certainly want to upgrade it and you will have to find someone else willing to pay you £300 for a greatly damaged cross which might prove difficult.

Here's my cross. Also missing a bit of enamel, but otherwise very collectable.

                        Stan

Pierce, I think you've got a very sound advise from Stan. The poor attempt to fix the enamel with some greyish substance brings down the value considerably.

                              cheers
                              Peter
