      The German text:

      Zum Geburtstag
      unserem lieben
      Lagerführer
      ...nsiedler Litauen
      24. 7.42

It is a gift given to the dear Camp Commander
Placename..siedler. Lithuania when he had his birthday
      24. 7. 42

          Steve,
this is not what you were asking , and Gerdan has answered that, but,
I was thinking how to preserve your written dedication on the bottom of the bust...and thought that if you got a thick felt pad cut to the size of the base, or a bit bigger(so it wont wobble), and you set the bust on the felt pad, it may be a softer base for the dedication to sit on. When bust may be moved a bit over time, for dusting et cetera, the bottom might be more protected from being more worn away.

          just a thought.

            It says "Umsiedler" (Resettler)

Latvians, Russians und Belorussians from Memelland and other areas were exchanged with germans from the baltikum before the war with russia. Later those germans had to go again back in the balticum as pioniers for the german expansion in the east.

This was part of the "Hitler-Stalin-Pakt".
