I don't have any idea as to how to put a value* on this painting but it certainly is an intersting find. Would you care to share the circumstances upon which you found it with the rest of the members here? If this were mine I'd start out by researching the artist and then try to find comparable painting by him that have sold recently. I suspect that most 3rd Reich collectors would put a nice premium on this due to the impeccable documentation remaining with it. I would also try to find a catalogue for the 1943 showing and see if this painting is included in it.

*Please note however that the contempory valuation was 2200 RMs.

You will need to have this appraised by an art dealer. There are collectors in Europe that will be very interested in this work. The key with this one is to find the right buyer. It should be listed and or photographed in the 1943 guide to the exhibit. Something like this might have it.

Interesting--I thought the US cleared out the Haus der Deutschen Kunst and sent everything to the National Archives, but perhaps that was only "Nazi" art.

2200RM--not cheap even by today's standards, especially for scenic piece. I would be interested to know what something like this goes for today--please keep us posted.

I belive there was also a distinction of owership/provenance in the type of color composition in the multicolor seal cord used on this artworks at the museum.

This piece is very nice, not only in the actual artwork but also in the documentation used during the T.R. period to catalog the works, something you don't see very often in the hands of a private collector.
Congratulations on a very interesting and rare piece.

Anything deemed to promote NS or militarism could be confiscated and any works made by PKs were deemed as military documents. Some of it has been returned but much of it is still in Colorado and West Point.

It's a nice painting - I'd love to have it in my collection. It would be worth more though if it had more "sensational" subject matter. Too bad it's not a nude or a battle scene!
