The Einatz u. Dienst Uniform: An Evolution?

As a recent "convert" to the field of NSDAP uniformology (thanks, Jeff...another addiction.... ) I have become fascinated by the rare Einsatz u. Dienst Uniform, which I had never heard of until I read Jeff's book. It looks like these changed along the way.

The primary difference between the standard PL uniform and the E. u. D. is the color--a darker shade of brown. The collar piping was eliminated, and the armbands reverted to standard party style. The buttons also went from the gold w/ the party eagle to brown-pebbled ones. The collars and lapels also seem to have decreased in size.

Presumably, this was to make the PL's less "gaudy" and conspicuous in a time of Total War, and a possible reaction to the pejorative "goldfasanen".

In any event, it appears the first E.u.D. tunices had exposed buttons:

This appears to be an early variant, in that the gold buttons have been eliminated, and are now brown-finished.

This is Jeff's, and has the final "evolution", the hidden-button front:

If This Form Of Uniform Variation Was S S, Who Knows What Level Of Price It Would Bring. Being Political, The Buyers Would Be Very Few At A Premium Level. Jeff Has The Only Example I Know Of In The Collections I Am Familiar With.

And for the sake of continuity, the only known example of an E.u.D. Schirmmutze, which now resides in the Bob C. collection:

Well, thats 2 we know of then--just like the Osteinsatz (which are also often misidentified).

BTW, I just noticed Axmann is wearing a cuff-title in the pic with Gauleiter Florian--is it "Hitlerjugend" in Sutterlin, or Grossdeutschland? I can't recall ever seeing that before....

There is another studio portrait of Ley wearing the EuD-Uniform with an M43 cap; it appears to have been taken on the same occasion as the one posted here.
I found it on the net a while back, if i recall correctly, on the Axis History Forum.

There are actually several images of Ley during that time period wearing this style uniform...just not well known.
