Buying...

I've been looking for a nice quality NSDAP tunic for quite a while now with no luck. I've told Jeff Clark a couple times how I should've bought the summer tunic he had at the SOS last year. I'll be perfectly honest, it's probably not that nobody is interested but rather nothing worth buying is showing up or at least I haven't seen anything I'd buy at this time. If it's a high quality piece, then 99.9 % of the time it's salted away in long time collections and not available. Alex

I have a very modest collection of SA items that I am building up slowly - over the pond here in lil old England pickings are pretty slim and economic downturn or not, that has never been much different for NSDAP/SA items in my experience.

Most shows I go to here have a tiny fraction of pieces that are of interest to me, less than 5% usually and then there is the cost... but Bob is right - there is hardly any interest in my area so I have no 'competition' so to speak. It amazes me that people just walk by pieces that stand out by a mile to me...

Like everyone on this particular forum I find the early political/paramilitary items and culture to be far more complex, sophisticated and aesthetically appealling than army - I'm sure the army collecting boys would say the same about their area of interest but thats just my opinion...

The PL Mantel that is up for sale is where by the way? I would like to have a look as I am sourcing an Orts Level uniform at the moment.

I wont go too off topic here but if you think the economy is bad in the US its nothing but doom and gloom here - the housing market is in reverse and the petrol prices are at an all time high, people have money they just wont spend it as freely is all creating a vacuum.

But what I don't really understand, If we are not so many "political" items collectors why are the prices for this items so high on the market?
If this stuff is not wanted, the prices had to go down, but seems they are growing higher and higher...
So if I have to pay a lot of monnay to buy a political formation item, on the other hand I don't want to sell it for much less than I bought it.
As already said, the day which you want sell, only a hand full serious collectors have interest and are willing to pay the asking price.

If you mention that you have a political leaders greatcoat for sale, you will have people wanting to buy it at the price of a Wehrmacht mantel (ie, about $250.00..!!)

I have a Austrian made NSDAP greatcoat for a Gau Amtsleiter, tabs and armband for $1500.00, and got nary a sniff..it dropped slowly, till i was asking $950.00.At that point, i got frustrated and pulled it from sale..

I agree, there does not seem to be much interest, but that does not stop the big dealers from asking outrageous prices..perhaps they feel they have to max out on the one item for all their troubles..
