The dealer got the horsepower wrong. Even w/ the supercharger, it was under 200. A lot of these 770K's were attributed to Hitler when they could have been used by any prominent personality, or even a wealthy businessman. I can't recall seeing Hitler ever riding in a hard-top 770K.

Hitler used most of the time the convertible version and when on the field a Mercedes Benz G4, which was also a convertible, wich was made even more famous as a "conquest leader car" in the Paris sight-seeing tour of Hitler after the fall of France. I to belive he never used a hardtop car(even the Volkswagen he was photograph was a convertible) The "red" spotlight was not only used by Hitler, but all high ranking/goverment officials as a signal of official goverment car.

This car could have belong to Borman,Himmler or even Goering, been at "the mountain" do not mean Hitler property, a lot of high party/govermnet officials had houses over there, it was just the "new owners" who wanted to add flavor/history to the car and other items.

It still a very interesting and historical car by it's own merit for auto aficionados and historians.

thanks for info, mind there was no need after 1944 for him to use an open top!....be interested to see a late war photo of him and what he used for transport.

One of Hitler's cars is on display at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. It was originally displayed as belonging to Goering, but recent research into the car by the museum found it was part of Hitler's personal fleet.

                        Hi Stonemint,

you are wrong to, with the supercharger the 770 230 BHP without 155 BHP.

Not all 770 cars were used by Hitler , Franco owned one, Mister Krupp also , and Carl August from Sweden, Field Marchal Mannerheim from Finland used the Offener Tourenwagen, Quisling from Norway used a armoured Innenlemker etc.

                          hitlers car

                          thanks for info guys.

back to the hardtop question i have.

after SS heydrich was killed in 1942,hitler ordered that all high level leaders travel in bullet proof cars.(yes i know his open top was bomb and bullet proof already)

so i would love to see a press photo or snap shot of hitler after 1942 in his car,due to the turn of tides and the war was being lost there was no need for the open top, there was no mass crowds.
so how/what did he travel around in....he left the berghof in febuary 1945 for berlin, what was he traveling in at that late stage of the war?

                          regards
                          matthew

After the assasination of R.H. in 1942 Hitler indeed ordered all high ranking officials to ride in armored cars at ALL times as a direct official order, to make the point across and avoid "excuses" of unavailable armored cars, the goverment ordered the famous Mercedes Benz 540 Aktion P cars, of wich only one compleat and untouch example exist and is in the Technical Museum in Prague, another example exist but was discovered in Russia "unassembled" and it was going to be fully restored in the USA by the new owners, but I havent heard or seen this car restored...if it was.

About how Hitler make it's trips, is my belief that was in the same way as before, in the same cars Mercede Benz Grosser 770k or G4(probably in the field HQ) The reason for it is very simple, during the rise to power years and when danger was extreamly more close to him physicaly, he ride in open cars, making him an easy target to any possible attacker, hey the guy even stay in his mountain top house for several days during all the years of the war to the point that the allied special operation group planned an assasination attempt in that area, since it was(even with all the security in place at the Berghof) the more probable place for success.

Most people belive that Hitler personal security was airtight from the start, it was not, until 1944 bomb plot, that change everything. Don't get me wrong, his security detail was very professional and inovative in all the areas BUT Hitler, as stated by his close aides was a very problematic person to guard and protect......one of this problems was his liking of convertibles, no matter what!!!.....he even used one in his flash visit to France.
