He would have earned it with a Heer or Waffen-SS unit, probably as a reservist. And yes, he would have taken time away from his NSDAP post to do so. A very common occurrence- other well-known examples include Baldur von Schirach, Karl Hanke, Karl Holz, Paul Giesler, as well as numerous NSDAP, Allgemeine-SS, SA, NSKK, NSFK, and HJ leaders who donned Wehrmacht uniform a time or two during the war. A number of them even received the Ritterkreuz, such as Friedrich Alpers (Allg.SS), Robert Alber (NSKK), Curt von Burgdorf (SA), etc.

    Best,

In researching my Political Leader Tunic, I found the man was also a member of the SA; SS; Heer reserve; and served on the Reichsbahn. He must have gone broke buying uniforms...

AT LEAST HE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO BUY SA AND SS UNIFORMS AT THE SAME TIME. ONCE HE JOINED THE SS, HIS SA MEMBERSHIP WOULD HAVE ENDED.
