Osteinsatz der NSDAP Form IV Visor

    Gents:

I had this in my temporary custody last summer, but now it is a permanent part of my collection (thanks, WAB ). I have posted this before, but it was in the cloth headgear forum, so I thougt I would post it here.

This is a hyper-rare visor (I know of only one other in the world) for the Osteinsatz der NSDAP. These uniforms are similar to standard NSDAP, but used an olive-brown color (which is distinct from the color of the Einsatz u. Dienst uniform pictured in Jeff Clark's book--I have compared the shades).

These new uniforms were not launched until May of 1944, which explains their scarcity, especially in light of the great Soviet offensives in the Summer of '44.

The piping is standard Reichsleitung golden yellow (the flash makes it appear lemon-yellow):

The hat is in dead-cold-sonemint condition--it was obviously never issued, and probably never made it out of the factory due to changing circumstances in the East.

Here you can see the olive-brown coloring clearly. The body is a heavy wool Trikot.

Interior--the maker is Oskar Hertlein, and uses their characteristic wasserdicht top panel with a contrasting polished cotton lining. The sweatband (surprisingly) is leather.

This is the coat of arms for Erlangen, where Hertlein was located. Note the WH visor cap at the top:

This shows the contrast between standard PL wool and Osteinsatz:

This is the only other Osteinsatz visor that I am aware of, and is pictured in Vol 3 of the Headgear of Hitler's Germany book:

There is hardly any reference material on the Osteinsatz. I believe they were in charge of the re-settlement of Volksdeutsche in the conquered Eastern Territories. If anyone else has any uniform items or additional info on this organisation, I would love to see/hear it!
