    1st pattern SA-Treffen Badge

I want to buy a 1st Pattern SA-Treffen 1931 Braunschweig badge for a very early Franken Motor SA brownshirt. 3 questions: 1. Was the 1st pattern just a one-day tinnie that later become an official award, or was it actually worn every day, as an award would be? 2. Did most SA gruppes participate in this rally, or is it possible that gruppe Franken wasn't even there? 3. I've assumed that many of these rare 1st pattern SA-Treffen badges you see at the gun shows are fake. Is there a way to distinguish them? Thanks!!

    tinnie

    sgstandard,
Good luck with trying to get a definitive answer on this.
I`ve been trying to get one on mine for awhile. It seems nobody really knows how to determine whats fake and what isn`t. I received this one from a dealer who is held in high esteem in the TR collecting world with a absolute guarantee of it being %100 good. Its also identical to the one listed in Reinhard Tiestes book on tinnies and I`ve seen acouple of others listed for sale on reliable dealers websites, and yet it has been said to be a fake, so go figure

These 1st pattern badges are highly faked. The 2nd type badges are the only ones shown in period lit. The 1st type were the ones that were suposed to be sold at the event. Be very careful before you purchase one. I would stick with the 2nd pattern if it were me. Hope this helps a bit!

I agree with the other Erich--just go with the 2nd pattern, which likely existed at the same time as the few rounder versions. I've seen one or two period photos with someone wearing what looks to be the type 1 badge, but normally the standard type 2 is seen worn. Go with a hollow struck silvered example and you'll be happier in the long run.

The solid RZM M1/17 Assmann badge is a safe bet too. I have not seen a fake Assmann badge YET.

They are always an interesting badge. I picked the one off the estand, i think it is good. I didn't see anyone call it out and from looking at others i am pretty damn sure it was a solid original. I would like to buy more but am always a bit edgy. Good luck. Matt

                      1st Pattern SA Treffen Badge

I like the badges which have the "S" on the top line directly above the "R" on the second line. This applies to both the 1st and 2nd patterns.

Here's my 1st pattern which is made of steel plate and is hollow. The recipients scratched details read "Ilse Tess-Bergh, Hamburg, St.Georg Str.16 III".

I like it, but who knows?

I have another 1st pattern like the stan´s one wich came to my hand directly from the family of a SA vet in Paderborn, and I think that this was the model sold directly during the event.
To buy the other model shown by Chris Lee is in my oppinion a risk, but a lot of people says that this is an original item made just before the 2nd pattern was manufactured. I don´t know, but... I preefer the model shown by Stan.
Stan, by the way, as I can see your 1st pattern is fill with metal to be more heavy. Curious. I love this improvement in items like that, specially this with the name scratched.
