          Badge

I'm positive it's a DRL badge that was given for athletic proficiency, and I believe the wearer had to test annually to retain the award. A swastika was added to the badge in 1937, so it's possible his badge didn't have one. The photo is of an SA Sturmfuhrer, a junior officer, approx. 1934-1937. The small pin on his pocket is a mystery. I don't know why some SA wore black ties, and some wore brown. It appears to be merely preference.

I think the oval is a lifesaving qualification badge.
