I'd say from the three images provided that it's OK.

I see where you are coming from Stuart, but I think in this case it's the colour of the background which is throwing the true colour off.

          Cheers

This strike of the badge appears closer to badges that have too often been referred to as a reproduction. Here is a similar badge offered by Detlev that was labeled a reproduction and you will see the strike looks closer to the posted badge than the one posted after it.

Here is a picture of one that has been deemed authentic and seems to be the standard accepted. Among other differences note differences in the alignment of feathers of the chest. The eagles head on this is also dissimilar to the badge that started this thread and the one deemed fake that was on Detlev's site a while back. I think the damage on the eagle's of the badge in question is making a direct comparison somewhat more difficult.

It also appears that the hinge may have been repaired at some time. Here are the two threads where both these badges were discussed.

I find that the fake 44s have what I call the "big swastika". If you compare the fake with the standard accepted badge, the swastika on the fake is thicker and heavier looking.

I also find that the originals have "fatter," more substantial berries at the top.

Unfortunately, this time Ron's photo skills do not quite show the colours or angles needed to make a good comparison. I'm still erring on the good side at the moment......

                Cheers

A closer picture of the feathers on the chest would help. The ones labeled as reproduction have a different number of feathers and different alignment than the known originals. Ron. I see what you mean about the swas but if you'll take a look at the 2 badges I've posted (the second badge being a known original) the swas between them doesn't show a dramatic difference (even though the original badge does have a bit of a thinner one) in thickness but the posted badge does have one that is substantially thinner.

I too would like to see more pictures. Considering Ron's usual high quality pictures we know & love, these ones are just not quite sharp enough. The bright background doesn't help either as it distracts the eye.

The overal condition of the one posted by Ron would point to copy, but a few of the points I can make out indicate an original, somewhat tired & unloved...... As Richard says, better pictures are required.

                    Cheers

                      Don and Richard,

More pictures will be posted real soon to see if they will help with the discussion.

                      Thanks for your help.

                      Best regards,

Here are lots of more detailed shots on a different background to see what you think.
