and this shot looks like they are not round but flat on the tops? like they have been stamped pressed? on some or all?

so for what i can see the gorget is good, but had the felt changed at one time and you can see that by the rear end fold corner creases, they were pulled up slightly and then put back down. the joints are not like that from the manufacture so this is the only thing i can think of causing this weird end folds? the chain i'm not happy with at all.

I'm only stating this due to the many gorgets i have owned and sold, and studied while buying them.

hope i didn't pee on anyones feet?

        nice gorget Bob!

hey you see what i'm talking about on the "M" in the RMZ code, instead of both legs going down to the "6" o'clock they are pointing out to 7 and 4 o'clock?

oh on the paper, your right on they used other kinds but Pink and that type? I really have to say no way. this paper was probley used at one time by the owner or vet or? but issued?

            Gregory,

This is the marvelous thing about this forum. We can learn from each other with respect.

This Gorget and chain have rested in the carton since 1973 when it was acquired along with other items from a veteran who sold them to a local pawn shop, so who knows what happened prior to that.

In regard to the quality of the workmanship of the chain links, it would be great if we could see another example from the same maker for comparison. Hopefully someone will post one.

However, here are two chains from other PL Gorgets, and as you can see, the quality on one is excellent and the other is poor.

Another point you rightfully raised is the possible replacement of the felt backing.

If indeed this was done, when was it done (if at all) is anyones guess, and is exhibited on another owned gorget with green backing as seen below.

The other point you made in regard to the "canted" legs of the "M" in the RZM logo is not unusual as noted as a variance on many party badges as pictured in Michael Tuckers great book "N.S.D.A.P. Enamel" pages 42 and 82.

Hopefully these points will add to this discussion with respect for all opinions.

                      Best regards,

ya it's all good, i'm not trying to dog it or anyone.

i just threw out what i see i hate about the chain, i have not seen a real one that bad, so i feel it is a replacment. the paper i feel is the same, and the backing i could be completely wrong on that, but i have been looking at others and your color is differant and also the edging looks like it has been worked on for some reason?

the box is 100% real and is the gorget, so if you can find another chain sometime i would replace it but keep the one that came with it in the box, sense you don't know the complete background of the item.

                        Bob, Ok,Ok, it could be??

I have been looking for that type and nothing yet and still on the spred out "M" worries me on the chain, OH also as you said the paper does look like paper they use in "local pawn shop's" so thats were that came from..
