Sturm marked armband - Please Help

    Hello,

I've run across a number of party armbands over the years but this one has me scratching my head. This is because it is a printed type on semi-coarse linen. I believe the piece to be original but the inside markings indicate to me that this would be an early pre-war SA armband. Because it is printed rather than sewn in separate pieces, I would have expected this to be a later production. It is made of a darker "wine" colored material like early party flags (the color is not reproduced correctly here, in these pictures it appears a bit too orange-red). The armband appears to have been a large "overcoat or greatcoat" sized piece that was folded and hemmed in with stitching to fit a tunic sleeve perhaps. Prior to the hemming, the Sturm Abteilung stamping was made. Because of the hemming, I can not show the entire stamping at once.

Please have a look and let me know if you think this could be an early party/SA armband (which would be nice) or if the ink stamping appears spurious. I appreciate in advance all assistance and opinions!

By the way, there is an impression of a tinnie or badge on the obverse from being under glass in an elderly gentleman's home for many, many years.

    Great collecting,

    William

        Another view

The color is too bright in this one, but it illustrates the stamping

          2nd portion of the stamping

This is stamped on the inside of the band. I look forward to your opinions!

Anyone have any ideas/opinions on whether this might be an early example, and therefore proper for these markings?

I don't know much about SA items but I will hazard a guess on this one. Well, for one thing, I would expect to see a real SA stamp read "Sturmabteilung", or perhaps (less likely) "Sturm-Abteilung." I haven't seen anything dating from the Third Reich that wrote the name of the organization in two unhyphenated words. For that matter, I would expect to see a SA unit listed. "M/36", is that a unit stamp? Fantasy depot mark? On the whole, I dislike this armband, sorry.
