Where to put this - purported silver cup from Göring's Berchtesgaden home or train

You read the title right folks. A very interesting piece coming up for auction that I don't quite know what to make of it, because how the heck do you validate it? Approx. 4.5"h x 3.75" diameter. Anyone an expert on these kinds of things? Move thread if applicable.

Difficult to say even with the letter because nothing else really shows that it has something to do with HG. There are many cups of this type also later made turning around here in Germany.

Would not bother unless you find a photo of him and the cup. However if all the other things on the list are in the auction then that’s a good thing. I would buy the sevres ashtray Rob

The letter is worthless. You’d think Randy would have asked her for her father’s name and other personal informtion to substantiate the contents of the letter. I wonder if #5 “zig-zag” is the Zeitner hallmark.

Yes I will pass. I was just curious on folks' thoughts. I feel like Göring had so much crap we will never now. And this was the only item on that list in the auction.

The letter seems suspicious. I wouldn't buy the story nor the item.

I actually think it could well be real, although the estimated price is too high. The other items on the list seem to correlate to known pieces from that well-documented haul, right down to the "Sevres" ashtray - a known maker mark of good pieces HG owned. Also notice the silver plate with "zig-zag" maker's mark. This would have been "Zeitner", another official manufacturer of fine Goering pieces. If the 'faker' had known this, they would no doubt have made mention of it.

Just my thoughts, based on what I can see here...

Didn't even touch it. Was going to go for the German Eagle order but I had it inspected by Epic Artifacts but they said due to the enamel damage and catch repair it wasn't work a ton. So passed on that too. Was gonna go after the SS dagger but that was determined to be bad too. Didn't take the time to look at any other daggers.
