    Collar Tabs for Review

    Hello to all forum Members,
I have got into a new (for Me) field of German Collecting. And I do not know much about this section of collecting. But so far, I like it and that is what matters.
I wanted to post these so you guys could give your opinions on them.
I appreciate any thing anyone has to say, good or bad.
Really in my case this is "How to Open up a New Can of Worms" but it is what it is.
I noticed the forum is doing a upgrade, I hope it works. I had almost given up on this forum. But it is my favorite.

    Tabs

By the way, does any one know of the BEST reference book on collar tabs.
I have only general reference books nothing that gets in depth or specific.
    Thank You,
    JacK

Great looking tabs. Jeff Clark's book Uniforms of the NSDAP is a very good reference on these tabs. Search Jeff Clark Militaria.

Hello ... NSDAP Collar Tab collecting is a great and specialized niche' within Third Reich Militaria Collecting. A rewarding, albeit tricky endeavor at the start ... with that said, let's look at the tabs posted.

The top two sets of tabs that started this thread, the Gauleitung (State Leadership Level - Orange-Red background with Wine Red Piping) tabs for Oberbereichsleiter and Bereichsleiter are absolute originals, 100% pre-1945!

...all the other tabs below these, without question are fakes and reproductions.

          thanks for your attention.
          sincerely,
          bob

I agree with Bob except that IMO the B tagged white piped kreis tabs are genuine

Compare the prong size of the eagles on the originals to the fakes- the fakes are much wider- if you remove one you will see it is cast- also the pips on the fakes have round prongs which on TR stuff is a pretty big no-no- they are also cast if you inspect them.

I agree, only 3 pair are good

                      collar tabs

After looking at them, and considering every thing. I now realize why in all of my years of collecting I have stayed away from collar tabs.

I understand the round pins on the pips.
I see the wider pins on the eagles of all of them except this pair looks narrow too.
And my biggest hit will be on this pair!!

Just so I will understand, what is wrong with this set.

I just got in the Jeff Clark book, I can not believe I went this long without it.
It has great info. I like it. "I might be sealing up this can of worms"
                      Again, Thanks to all,
                      JacK

And Patrick W & Jeff is saying the eagles should be die struck or stamped and not cast? Is this for all collar tabs? And the pips. I just want to understand as to not make this mistake again.
                      And to help others.

No final pattern political leaders tabs ever had a red RZM tag, they all had blue.
The area within the wreath and around the swastika should have pebbling.
The eagles neck should not look like a chickens neck.
They use to have humps under the wings in early fakes, but they are fixing that in this next generation fakes.

                          Tabs

                          Good Evening forum members,
I want to thank EVERY ONE for helping me with my collar tabs.
I bought these from a reputable dealer and can return them.

I spent the last hour scanning drawing and taking notes, so I can pass there tips on to other fellow collectors and while I am sure I still do not know much about collar tabs, I can go forward with the knowledge I have gained, to further my collection.
I am actually an old timer in the hobby, and in the 1980's I avoided collar tabs for just this reason, I needed a 5 decade reminder as to why I avoided them in the first place.
I move forward with much more knowledge.
I want to thank every one that responded and those that PM'ed me.
It has helped to remind me why I love this hobby.
                          JacK

                            Thanks for posting Jack!

And thanks to those who specialize in this insignia and continue to share their hard earned knowledge. I learned a lot from this thread and also identified some fake political tabs in my collection I didn’t know about. Always better to know the truth!
