      rohm cuff

hi kyle. i recall when i first saw the bullion cuff in your first post. must have been 9-10 years ago. i think it might have been on german daggers com. don't recall the discussion about it though. i am leery of the bullion piece. ed and i had of lot of contact over the years before he died. ed was a great guy, collector and good collecting buddy and had a phenomenal collection. but he did (like many of us) have some questionable pieces in his collection. i'm going to try and attach a photo with this post. i hope that antik doesn't mind. for me, i would not accept the bullion piece as original without period photographic evidence. appreciate you posting this. although i no longer collect sa i still think it is one of the most misunderstood, interesting & Byzantine areas of collecting. i hope antik doesn't mind. apologies in advance if he gets pissed off.

I've seen 2 examples of the Sütterlin 'Stabschef Röhm' sleeveband and had no doubt in my mind that they were original.
I agree w/echoe that the bullion example is highly suspect. I wouldn't want one with that sort of construction or materials or workmanship.
I believe there was aa discussion on WAF regarding that sleeveband at least 10 years ago and perhaps longer. The consensus was that the band was questionable at best, and only one or 2 people thought it might be okay (I think one of these people was the owner).
Agree also re Ed Stadnicki--great guy and generous, and I was able to purchase a few scarce/rare items from his collection after his untimely demise. When he began collecting SA material, there were really no english language reference books except the Kahl volume. He had a goodly amount of fine items but also had quite a bit of very debatable/absolutely fake pieces as well. He told me that when he found something he felt was interesting and could afford it, he'd buy it even if he wasn't sure about it, didn't know what it was, etc.

In my, in Germany published book, about gorgets (published 2012) in the chapter about SA, the subject of cuffbands was included
as in fact these cuffbands were the actual forerunner for the later introduced gorget for the "Feldherrnhalle".
What many do not know, the book includes more as just gorgets. It is also a pity the book is in German language. The planned English
version was never put into a lay-out and so was not released.

In the seventies I learned to know Ed and later he was willing to assist me with some of my planned projects. Pitily he passed away.
I am aware Ed owned the cuffband already in the sixties and as far as I remember he obtained it from a Dutch dealer (this person
          - who I know well - also was the one who owned various uniforms from Lutze and other high ranked persons). As far as I known Ed's
cuffband was an original, what one cannot say from various others that were known to exist. They are anyway doubtful. This I also
said in the caption to the shown cuffbands.

The photos from my book are shown here:

Kai is a minefield. Unless you are 100% sure.

Isn't it so they practically all are (having doubtful items to many subjects)??
Most do not even recognize what has been faked in the later 1960's and 1970's!!
It does not matter what field of collecting: orders/decorations, daggers, cloth
                insignia or whatever.
