    GPB Id?

    Hello,

has maybe someone Info for this shown party badge number?
Note also the two casting dots bottom of the number, not often to see.
This one is really in very nice condition, nicer in real for my view as it is quite enlarged in the photo.

    thanks for any help,
    Rob

    Hi Rob,

Sorry that NSDAP Membership Number 70189 is not identified on my list at this time. A nice large badge, though, with a bit of damage to the pin plate. And the cloisonne disk is slightly out of line.

          Could it be re-numbered?

"Do you know those two dots on the reverse?"

I see those two faint dots below the number on the reverse, Robert, but I have no explanation for them. I don't think I've ever seen such dots before...?

                "Could it be re-numbered?"

                Hi Ron,

The very few GPBs that I've seen that have apparently been "re-numbered" each included evidence of a renumbering process: Each of the ones I've seen appeared to have been 'shaved down' on the reverse below the pin plate, and a new number had been struck there. The entire reverse surface had also been re-gilded, in order to match in to the obverse finish. The badge in this thread does not show evidence that that process had been employed...evidence to me, at least.

Since it was required that if a GPB Träger lost his/her permission to wear that award, the badge(s) had to be returned to the National Treasurer's Office. This theoretically would have made such returned badges available to be renumbered, if that process had been wanted by Der Ehrenzeichenskommission. But so few of those apparently-renumbered GPBs are known to exist that I doubt that the GPB Commission regularly took that action.

I suspect the dots are die ejector marks, like on this badge. Not commonly seen on a GPB.
